Verona Day 1!

We woke up in Tuscany feeling absolutely wonderful! Sad to leave, but Peter was excited to go to the fair city of Verona! We decided on Verona the night before because it was closer to Milan, where we were to fly back to Paris from. So a lovely breakfast, and then we were on the road again!

Our last Tuscany meal

Peter was pretty excited about the old Roman Colosseum! This one dates back BEFORE the one in Rome! Around 1st century B.C.!!!! They even still use it today! We saved the tour for later, but seeing this was pretty cool!

Roaming the sweet streets of Verona!

First stop...Juliet's balcony! Well, what was apparently the inspiration behind the location for Shakespear's most iconic love scene.

 There it is!!!

So romantic!

 Where to now Peter?

Oh, A small pasta snack!!! This place was amazing, freshly, hand made raviolis and pastas!!! We got the sampler platter...one of each ravioli!
 Opal loved it?

Then off to the streets of Verona!

Along the river

Strolling through the old cobblestone streets.

Big door, little people.

This is one of the original Roman arches, an entrance to the old city, dating back to 1st century B.C. Peter was pretty chill about this 'old shit'. A model fashion shoot for Peter was in order. We think he nailed it.

A beautiful old bridge over the river...in the distance the remains of an original Roman amphitheater, again dating back to B.C.!!!

A really old church!  And one With colors of the rainbow around the entrance...shout out pride!

The main square that surrounds the Colosseum.

We thought an aperitif was in order...aperol spritz for us both!

After, we tried to get a good family shot in front of the Colosseum, but we didn't realize we were blinding Opal! Whoops!

Inside the old Colosseum! Pretty cool that they still use it today! Peter thinks they were setting up for either Kenny Rogers or a Christina Aguilera concert. Not based on any info, just his best guesses.

 Sitting in the old seats!

 Opal Moon will nurse anywhere!!!

Walking the halls of gladiators!

Appropriate we found a heart int he streets of Verona! We love you Opal Moon!

Annnd, after we bought a new suitcase to fit all of our wines and meats, it was time to sit in another square and have another drink!

Opal wanted to be paraded around.

After a quick change back at our hotel, it was time for dinner. We were recommended to a great locals spot and lots of eating insued. They had traditional foods of Verona...one of which was HORSE tar tar!!! NO, we did not get that!!! NO, no no!! But, the eggplant parmeseana was out of this world! So was the poletna!!!Which was first made here apparently. Peter loved his wild boar salami, and the pastas of truffle, tagliatelle,  and a shared fish were great! Peter adored the wine here! Opal Moon adored the bread here! There were caraway seeds in it!

A beautiful night to finish our little Italian tour! Off to bed and then on to Paris!
